Donna Zils Banfield, a woodturner and juried League member, is grateful to the League for introducing her to her craft and providing the support to pursue it. With 20 years in the legal profession, Donna, a lawyer, discovered woodturning at the League’s Craftsmen’s Fair, which she attended every year with her husband. “I was so drawn to the woodturning demonstrations that my husband gave me a lathe and turning tools,” said Donna.”I used woodturning to decompress from the stress of my job.” She closed her law practice in 2004 to work with wood full time and never looked back.

In 2010, she became a juried member of the League. “The League’s mission works. I gained an appreciation for fine craft at the Fair, which developed into an interest in woodturning, and then led me to actually doing it. I had come 180 degrees by jurying into the organization that fostered my interest,” said Donna. “I know that there are others like me that need the support and opportunity to do the same.”

You can help the League continue to make a difference by making a gift to our Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is the main source of revenue for our statewide arts education and scholarship programs and for our year-round operations.
