The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen - Meredith Fine Craft Gallery is pleased to host a POP~ UP Show with master weaver and fiber artist Doug Masury, Saturday, Dec. 16th from 11 to 4:00.
Back by popular demand, Doug participated in November’s Open Doors and had such an impressive turnout, he is coming back to offer his fabulous bamboo, silk, and cotton scarves and shawls. Custom dyed by Doug, the colors make one think of world-wide tribal migrations, hues in nature from the Painted Dessert, colors found in lush foliage, the moon rising as the sun sets. For most of his pieces, Doug uses the Scandinavian Rug Weaving Technique called double-stitched Krokbragd. This is a weft-faced design, meaning, no warp threads show through the weaving. All designs are woven from the weft colors. How one throws the shuttles and the colors determines the patterns and the pattern changes. Embellishments, such as weaving decorative chain and beads through the scarf, add to the unique aesthetic of each piece.
Join us for the opening of a great new exhibition at the Gallery at League HQ in Concord. Reception is free and open to the public. This exhibition runs from January 12 – Mach 28, 2018

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn everything you need to know to start carving your own wood creations! We will demystify the properties of different woods and discuss how to choose the right wood for the job. We will look at carving tools and discuss where to get them, how to use them safely and how to sharpen and maintain them. And, last but not least, we will explore design ideas for starter projects! Everyone will have plenty of opportunity to experiment with various tools to get a feel for function and creating effects. Students will leave class with some wood for starter projects and a leather strap for sharpening and also with the enthusiasm and the confidence you need to start your own wood carved collection! Children 10 years and up are welcome with a registered adult. Intermediate student are also welcome to bring their projects in process to get assistance and work on while listening during the class. For all classes at the Craft Center at League HQ, advance registration is required. Find out more on our class page HERE.
Melting glass is fun and addictive! This fast paced class will give you a chance to explore kiln-fired glass and many techniques that make melting glass so exciting. You will use dichroic, transparent and opaque glass on a base of clear or black Bullseye glass to create designs that feature the depth and sparkle of dichroic techniques. You will also have the opportunity to experiment with glass frit, mica powders and other inclusions. In the second session, after the glass is full fused, you will cold work the glass to create the finished pendants. This workshop will also cover safety considerations, firing instructions and cold working. Due to time constraints of the annealing process, you will need to pick up your pendants after the second session.
