Getting Started with Woodcarving with Laury Nichols @ The Craft Center at the League of NH Craftsmen HQ

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn everything you need to know to start carving your own wood creations! We will demystify the properties of different woods and discuss how to choose the right wood for the job. We will look at carving tools and discuss where to get them, how to use them safely and how to sharpen and maintain them. And, last but not least, we will explore design ideas for starter projects! Everyone will have plenty of opportunity to experiment with various tools to get a feel for function and creating effects. Students will leave class with some wood for starter projects and a leather strap for sharpening and also with the enthusiasm and the confidence you need to start your own wood carved collection! Children 10 years and up are welcome with a registered adult. Intermediate student are also welcome to bring their projects in process to get assistance and work on while listening during the class.  For all classes at the Craft Center at League HQ, advance registration is required.  Find out more on our class page HERE.

Fabric Collage with Cheryl Miller @ The Craft Center at the League of NH Craftsmen HQ

You will complete a 4 x 6 inch fabric collage of a simple landscape with a fruit/vegetable in the foreground. The finished collage will be mounted in a mat and ready to frame in your own 8 x 10 inch frame. There will be time at the beginning of the day to do some small practice pieces before starting the final piece.
Students should bring to class: their own sewing machine, #14 needle, basic sewing knowledge (straight stitch, reverse, how to wind and change their bobbin); [optional] special fabrics and threads they wish to use; fabric scissors; open mind…Cheryl does not use a pattern! Boxing in Metal – An Exploration of the Hollow Form with Barbara Smith McLaughlin @ The Craft Center at the League of NH Craftsmen HQ

These classes will be held on two dates: 3/8/18 & 3/15/18.  Each day will begin at 9:30 AM and end at 3:30 PM.

Explore the construction of a hollow form and make a key clasp with safety. This class is for advanced students who have a solid grasp of soldering. New students should take a torch class before signing up for this class.  Materials fee payable to the instructor will range from $20-$30 depending upon what is used.

Prepare for work in a metal studio – no loose clothing, no open-toed shoes or sandals, hair tied back, etc.

Fundamentals of Stumpwork Embroidery: Mastering Stem Stitch with Robert Dorr @ The Craft Center at the League of NH Craftsmen HQ

In this class, we’ll be looking at stem stitch and its variations. As you learn stem stitch, you’ll create an appliqué patch based on a tattoo design. This class will also introduce a simple ladder, which will be used to raise some of the needlework and create additional texture. A little familiarity with the needle is a plus. This is the second in a series of workshops that will focus on techniques used in stumpwork embroidery. The series will conclude in the fall of 2018 with a workshop that brings it all together.

Beginner Jewelry Workshop with Betsy Keeney @ The Craft Center at the League of NH Craftsmen HQ

During this workshop, students will be introduced to the exciting craft of metal jewelry making. Students will be given instruction in several different beginner jewelry techniques such as sawing, filing, texturing and finishing metal. Students will have the opportunity to leave this workshop with a pair of earrings, a pendant and a bracelet. Introduction to Crochet Techniques for Jewelry with Anne Sherman @ The Craft Center at the League of NH Craftsmen HQ

In this workshop, we will explore three basic crochet techniques that can be used in jewelry. Anne will share several examples from her work, which demonstrate a variety of potential approaches and applications to integrating crochet into your jewelry designs. Depending on your skill level, you will have the opportunity to practice and explore technique as well as design possibilities. Kiln-Fired Dichroic Glass Pendants with Lynn Haust @ The Craft Center at the League of NH Craftsmen HQ

Melting glass is fun and addictive! This fast paced class will give you a chance to explore kiln-fired glass and many techniques that make melting glass so exciting. You will use dichroic, transparent and opaque glass on a base of clear or black Bullseye glass to create designs that feature the depth and sparkle of dichroic techniques. You will also have the opportunity to experiment with glass frit, mica powders and other inclusions. In the second session, after the glass is full fused, you will cold work the glass to create the finished pendants. This workshop will also cover safety considerations, firing instructions and cold working. Due to time constraints of the annealing process, you will need to pick up your pendants after the second session.

PLEASE NOTE THE CLASS MEETS FROM 9:30 AM TO 11:30 AM ON SATURDAY AND 9:30 AM TO 12:30 PM ON SUNDAY.

Beyond Beginner Jewelry with Betsy Keeney @ The Craft Center at the League of NH Craftsmen HQ

Students in the workshop will continue to build on the fundamentals learned in the Beginner Jewelry Workshop. Along with texturing, sawing, filing and using the torch, students will learn to bezel set a cabochon. Students should expect to go home with a finished pendant featuring a beautiful set stone as the focal point. All materials will be provided by the instructor.

Nuno Felted Scarf with Nancy Evans @ The Craft Center at the League of NH Craftsmen HQ

Learn the basics of Nuno Felting as you create a beautiful piece of wearable art! Participants will combine beautiful silk chiffons with soft Merino Wool roving using wet felting techniques to form a new soft, durable, luscious fabric. You will leave class with a textured, colorful, one-of-a-kind scarf.

All felting supplies will be provided including choice from a wide array of chiffon scarf lengths and wonderfully soft Merino roving. Participants should bring: a couple of old bath towels, 1 mil painters drop cloth plastic, scissors, lunch and desire to have fun. This class requires standing for most of the day.
