The Mount Washington Cog Railway is a proud partner with the League of NH Craftsmen. The Cog’s handcrafted Peppersass (pronounced Pepper-Sass) engine will be at the Annual Craftsmen’s Fair this year.
In 1869, Peppersass became the first cog-driven train to climb Mount Washington, and subsequently was used to build the Mount Washington Cog Railway — the world’s first mountain climbing cog railway. The train was handcrafted in New England and is a product of 19th century technology and modern innovation. Come and take a photo with Peppersass and enter to win free tickets to ride The Cog.
This year, Peppersass is celebrating its 150th birthday and we’ve planned some special activities. Thursday, August 11 is Cog Day and there will be a birthday cake for Peppersass. The maker of The Cog – Sylvester Marsh and his wife, Cornelia — will be on hand to blow the candles out. There will be hands-on activities for the kids and performances by the Little Red Wagon Children’s Theatre Troupe.
